What is British Sign Language (BSL)?
​
BSL is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expressions and body language. BSL has its own grammatical structure and syntax, as a language it is not dependant, nor is it strongly related to spoken English.
Who uses BSL?
It is predominantly used by people who are either deaf or have hearing loss. The British Deaf Association estimates there are 151,000 BSL users in the UK , of which 87,000 are Deaf (as of 2011), and about 20,000 children .People who are not deaf may also use BSL, as hearing relatives of deaf people, sign language interpreters or as a result of other contact with the British Deaf community.

We are an Approved Signature BSL Centre running a range of BSL courses using a flexible and dynamic approach to cater to your needs.
We offer a range of teaching options including:

Our experienced and qualified teaching team provides a welcoming and friendly learning environment for all abilities, from an Introduction to BSL all the way through to qualified BSL interpreter qualifications.
Throughout the year, we offer a variety of courses ranging from BSL Level 1 all the way up to Level 6. Additionally, we offer a wide variety of bespoke workshops for those who sign at all levels within appropriate topics.
The duration of our courses range from one full day to one academic year, depending on the course content and the qualifications desired.
All our classes at EDS are small and intimate, therefore providing you with optimal and maximum support to help guide you on your BSL journey from the very onset. Every student will receive, on passing a course, a Signature Accredited Qualification Certificate.
